Mavic 2 Pro // Hasselblad // Mavic 2 zoom // DJI Mavic Update

If you know me, you know I LOVE my drone. I built my first drone in 2013 right around the same time the DJI Phantom came out. Since then, I have built several drones but last year, I bought the DJI Mavic Pro because of its portability. 

This is my first aerial photo taken in 2013 with a camera zip tied to the bottom of my hexacopter.

I absolutely LOVE this UAV. It is so compact and the image quality is pretty good, however the tiny image sensor means less than stellar image quality. The Mavic Pro 2 with a 1" Hasselblad sensor should significantly help the Mavic 2 pro to capture images with more dynamic range and higher sensitivity in low light. If you haven't watched my other videos on image sensor size, here is a quick run down. 

The smaller the image sensor, the smaller the pixels are that collect light. The bigger the pixel, the better they can collect light so they perform better in low light. Besides low light, a sensor with bigger pixels can capture a wider variance of light, meaning it can capture bright highlights and dark shadows all at once. 

The Mavic 2 zoom offers the same 1/2.3" sensor size as the current Mavic Pro but with a zoom lens on the front end. This will allow you to zoom in from 24mm to 48mm to get closer to your subject. This is especially helpful if you are trying to capture something that is surrounded by trees to unsafe to approach. 

The updated version of the Mavic will also include 360º obstacle avoidance, increased top speed, and even longer battery life.
